AHFC Paxton Manor Housing

Sitka, Alaska

In 1999, JYL completed a comprehensive conditions assessment of an existing twenty-four unit multifamily residential housing complex in Sitka. The original facilities constructed from drawings by our predecessor firm Olsen & Sands were over forty years old and had reached the end of their useful life. In 2001 we were selected to provide design and construction administration services to complete the demolition and reconstruction work. The design of the units was site adapted from another AHFC project to fit the unique conditions of the Sitka site. The existing site was of poor quality soils which dictated the design be adjusted to accommodate pile foundations versus slab on grade. Our team worked closely with AHFC, City & Borough of Sitka Building Officials and residents to develop a design that met project objectives and minimized disruption to the residents.
