UAS Noyes Pavilion
Auke Lake Campus of the University of Alaska Southeast
Located on a hillside overlooking the Auke Lake Campus of the University of Alaska Southeast, the Noyes Pavilion offers commanding views of Auke Lake and the Mendenhall Glacier. The site is nestled within an old growth forest of stately spruce, hemlock and cedar trees. This structure was designed to be open to the outstanding views from the site, yet protected from the elements while welcoming the surrounding landscape into the space. The structure is created from heavy timber and tubular steel framework. The construction style allows for the hanging of protective screens and set canvas, yet is flexible enough to allow a theatre in the round setup with fire pit, theatrical lighting and sound system. Construction was completed in 2002 at a cost of $1.5 million dollars.
